Content Packs

What is a Content Pack?

A Power BI content pack is just as the name suggests- content/data from your organization pre-packaged in a visualization layout of your choosing. If your company regularly generates reports using a consistent format, content packs can save you time and money. Content packs retain visualizations in an ordered format, even while the data behind the dashboard/report changes as refreshes occur.

Unlike sharing a Power BI Dashboard with your colleagues who cannot access the underlying data within the report, organizational content packs transmit the dashboard, report, and dataset to anyone within your organization.

Creating a content pack

The process for creating an organizational content pack is extremely straightforward. If you have already constructed a dashboard on the Power BI Service, then you are half way there. For the complete dashboard process, click here.

In the Power BI Service online, choose the dashboard you wish to create a content pack for then select the gear icon located on the top right portion of the screen.

Once you select “Create content pack”, you will be navigated to the
content pack editor page as show below. Here, you can edit the details
behind the content pack and control who has access to the information.

There are plenty of pre-made content packs to choose from on the Power
BI Service content pack library. To view all eligible content packs, on the
Power BI Service select the “Get Data” button located on the bottom left
of the screen.

below. From there under the Content Pack Library, select “Get” in the
Services section.

You will then be able to connect to 44 different content packs, a sample
of which is shown below. With Power BI being updated every month and
by the time you are reading this article, there could be even more
content packs to choose from.pbicontentpackstep.png

of a skeleton are located in the same location for virtually everyone.
Humans cannot function without other vital necessities like muscles,
organs, blood vessels, and the nervous system. Actually, you can think of
creating Power BI content packs, reports, or dashboards in general as
the human body.  For a complete comparison for Power BI to the human
